Why You Need A North Star For Your Brand (Especially When You’re a New Realtor)

Ever scroll through Instagram and land on a brand that just hits you? The crystals, the moon phases, the whole Gwyneth Paltrow-esque vibe just speaks to your soul? Yeah, me too. But here’s the thing, my friend: that brand crush can quickly turn into the dreaded “shiny object syndrome” of branding.

We see something pretty and suddenly our brains shout, “Maybe it’s time to ditch everything and become a wellness guru with a jade roller collection and a penchant for obscure Sanskrit mantras?”

Especially for newer agents, this branding struggle is real. You’re out there trying to define your own unique voice, but it feels like you’re lost in a sea of fonts, color swatches, and stock photos of people meditating in lotus pose on mountaintops.

But what if I told you there was a way to cut through the noise and get laser-focused on your personal brand?

Enter the North Star Strategy!

Think of it like your branding compass. When you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed by a million branding decisions, your North Star guides you. It’s your training wheels, helping you navigate the branding process until you find your own unique voice and message.

Here’s the best part: your North Star doesn’t have to be another real estate agent. It can be anyone who embodies the vibe you want to cultivate.

Confession time: I once coached a client, let’s call her Cam. She was obsessed with Gwyneth Paltrow’s whole Goop aesthetic. We realized that Goop’s website, its tone, its color palette – it all resonated with Cam’s own vision. But here’s the key: we didn’t copy Goop. We used it as inspiration to create something unique and authentic to my client.

Over time, Cam gained confidence, she started to find her own way. She’d say, “Gwyneth does it this way, but you know what? I think I’d rather focus on it like this.” And that’s the beauty of the North Star strategy. It helps you build a brand that’s true to you, not a just a copycat version of someone, who let’s be honest is probably doing it better because it was always their’s to begin with.
