As a Realtor, it’s important that you understand this: YOU are a personal brand. Your clients want to work with you not just because of the services you offer but because of who you are! Potential clients will want to connect with you to see if you’re the right fit and if you’re someone they’d want to work with – after all, buying or selling a home is an important life event. (And let’s face it – you’re probably going to be spending a lot of time together!)
In such a competitive industry, it’s crucial that you start working on creating your personal brand, and I’m here to help. Presenting…3 questions tat you can ask yourself to help you clarify your brand and create a personal brand that will foster a connection with your potential clients! Boom.
ONE | WHAT DO I VALUE?
I often say to clients, “If you don’t have values, you don’t have a brand!” (Seriously, follow me around for a day. You’ll hear me say this about 57 times.)
When you think of big companies, I bet you can quickly identify their values – they’re probably the reasons you buy their products or use their services! These companies spend big bucks on branding and marketing to make sure their customers understand who they are and what they value – and connect with them.
Lucky for you, as a Realtor, you can have all sorts of fun with this because, as a personal brand, you get to incorporate your personal values into your business (which is SO much better than trying to come up with a persona for your business!). I mean, is it just me or does every Realtor seem to claim “integrity” as their core value?! Dive deeper and ask yourself what YOU value, not just what your industry values. What do you stand for? What causes do you support? Or think about makes you angry and identify the opposite of that!
Whether it’s generosity, family, supporting small businesses, or adding value, I know you have a core value that will resonate with your clients. (Yes, beyond integrity!)
TWO | WHAT ARE MY BRAND GOALS?
Ask yourself what you truly want in your business. (Beyond more money and clients! That’s obvious, right?!) Push yourself further and ask yourself what your brand goals are. To build awareness around one of your values? To build connections and lifelong friendships?
Fourth Street Creative’s brand goal is to empower Realtors to create strong personal brands and give them all the tools they need to do it. That’s what lights me up – what lights YOU up?!
THREE | HOW DO I WANT MY CLIENTS TO THINK OF ME?
This question really gets to the heart of what your business is all about! Ask yourself, “If I were a fly on the wall in a room filled with my past clients, what would I want to overhear when the subject turns to me?”
Don’t fall back on what you think is expected of you, like wanting your clients to say you’re a great negotiator. Be honest with yourself and know it’s OK to let your ego take the reins here! For instance, I’d want my clients to say that my templates are super stylish and that I’m relatable. (And maybe that my dog Chewie is darn adorable too!)
When you’re honest about this, you can get to the core of what really matters to you. For me, I want Realtors to know they can come to me for guidance and feel excited about what’s possible for their business – that’s a value I can build my brand on!
Take your time answering these 3 main questions and have fun with it! Remember, you’re never boxed into just one value, goal, or perception. Your values and goals can absolutely shift. But if you start to clarify your brand I promise you’ll build stronger connections and have people knocking – nay! banging! – on your door because they want to work with you!
